A live-action film based on the theme park ride Jungle Cruise is officially a go at Disney, with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on board to star in the project, according to THR.
The studio has been developing the film for years now, with the actor attached to it since August 2015. Per THR, Johnson is also set to produce the project with Dany Garcia, the actor’s manager and producing partner at Seven Bucks Entertainment, along with Davis Entertainment’s John Davis and John Fox.
Jungle Cruise’s script has gone through several writers, but the most recent draft was penned by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. The film is expected to begin production in the spring of 2018, as Johnson is currently busy with other projects, including New Line’s Rampage, as well as Universal and Legendary’s Skyscraper.
Disney is now looking for a director for the project. As for Johnson, the actor can next be seen in the R-Rated Baywatch movie on May 26.
