Easter egg fans can cast a frown today as the scene with the most easter eggs was cut from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. James Gunn revealed the information during an interview with Collider where he said the following:
“Unfortunately we had a sort of terrible cutting — one of our scenes we cut was with Grandpa Quill on earth, and we had a lot of Easter Eggs in that scene. As much as we had in the collector’s museum, probably more.”
Gunn plans to release an image of the scene on his social media at some point, but we shouldn’t expect to see it on the Blu-ray. The director says that while 13 minutes were removed from the first theatrical cut, only about 2-3 will be making the Blu-ray release. The final cut will have plenty of easter eggs remaining Gunn assured, they just won’t all be packed into one scene.
Since Gunn plans on releasing an image of the easter eggs, fans are left to wonder what could tidbits could have been present. The scene took place on Earth, so it’s unlikely we’d get any cool cosmic appearances there.
Easter egg hunters still haven’t found the final Guardians of the Galaxy easter egg though, so maybe it was good that Gunn didn’t continue hiding even more in the sequel.
