Eminem, Big Sean & Jemele Hill To Send 900 Kids To See ‘Black Panther’

Black Panther HomecomingESPN’s own Jemele Hill is teaming up with rappers Eminem and Big Sean to send 900 kids in Detroit to go see Black Panther. Hill, Eminem, and Big Sean are all Detroit natives themselves, and are dedicated to making sure these kids have a chance to see themselves in a superhero on the big screen.

Hill had announced her plans earlier this month, with the screening intended for Detroit students with perfect attendance. After announcing her plans, the Detroit Free Press, along with the NFL team the Detroit Lions, joined Hill in her efforts by enlisting Eminem, Big Sean, and two NBA players to help raise the money. Reports indicate that the 900 students will fill up Michigan’s Emagine Royal Oak Theater on February 28, including over 200 students who will have had a perfect attendance rate for the year so far.

On why she felt inspired to help these students see Black Panther, Hill had this to say:

“And one of the many things that the ‘Black Panther‘ movie is about is hope. That’s the most important thing we can give children. I know, having grown up in Detroit, that there is sometimes a shortage of that there. Kids need to be inspired. This movie is meant to show them that they can move mountains. It’s almost meant to show them that your lot in life does not have to be determined by where you come from. I just connected with it on such a great level. Every child deserves to see this movie.”

Hill, Eminem, and Big Sean join the ever growing group of privileged individuals helping less privileged, predominately black communities have a chance to see themselves represented in a way that they rarely are in huge superhero blockbusters.

Black Panther is directed by Ryan Coogler, and stars  Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke,  Florence Kasumba, Sterling K. Brown, Forest Whitaker, Andy Serkis and John Kani.

Black Panther is in theaters now.

Did Charlamagne tha God's Prediction Nudge Chadwick Boseman Into Black Panther Role?

Marvel’s Black Panther is finally in theaters and if you haven’t had the opportunity to check this film out yet, you absolutely should. Whether you’re a hardcore MCU fanboy, a die-hard fan of the character in comics, an admirer of one of the dozen or so amazing performers featured in this incredible cast, or just someone who wants to relish in the chance to finally see an African American superhero headline his own film on a scale such as this, you should get everything you’re looking for and more in Black Panther.

The importance of what director Ryan Coogler and company did with this film cannot be overstated. Black Panther is a massive achievement for representation in the same way that Wonder Woman was last year, and most importantly, the film totally delivered, so much so that we have a whole list’s worth of exciting and cool moments to talk about. There are dozens of great little beats, jokes, or lines of dialogue that could fill a list of their own, but these are the bigger moments that either held an emotional weight or just some really kick-ass sequences. Sometimes both.

Before we begin, however, I’d like to point out that with this list comes a major SPOILER WARNING. If you have not yet seen Black Panther, come back after you’ve had the chance to check it out.
