Smallville star Erica Durance reflected on Allison Mack’s sex cult recruitment attempts.
For a total of 10 seasons from 2001 to 2011, The CW’s Smallville aired 217 episodes. The series, which was a coming-of-age prequel exploring Clark Kent’s earlier years featured key castmembers including Tom Welling, Kristen Kreuk, Michael Rosenbaum, Allison Mack, and Erica Durance among others.
In recent years, one of the series’ main cast members Allison Mack has been in headlines due to her involvement with NXIVM, a sex cult that was posing as a multilevel marketing company. The Smallville actress was arrested for sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy, and forced labor in relation to this cult.
Numerous members of the Smallville cast have reflected on the fallout of Allison Mack’s legal issues, and now, Erica Durance has shared her experiences she had when working with Mack on the series.
In an appearance on her former Smallville co-star Michael Rosenbaum’s Inside of You podcast, Erica Durance reflected on Allison Mack’s attempts in recruiting her to join the NXIVM sex cult:
“I said the idea of sharing all of my personal secrets brings up a visceral reaction in me. She didn’t bring it up until the latter part of the seasons. We had an interesting relationship, me and Allison. I think that she felt like she wanted to like me. I think that she wanted people to see that she wanted to like me but I don’t think having me there was something that was great for her. Maybe it came off as her being threatened but I found there was too many little idiosyncrasies that would happen.
I would walk away and was like, ‘I thought we got along today.’ Then I would go home and be like, ‘Well, that was mean.’ Nobody would ever see it. There were all sorts of those little things that would go on…I think she liked being in that position of knowledge and wanting to recruit. I think she really believed in it but I didn’t really trust her motivation when it came to me.”
Erica Durance and Allison Mack didn’t get along during Smallville.
During her conversation with Michael Rosenbaum, Erica Durance looked back at her working relationship with Allison Mack, which she felt wasn’t so great. She credited having their personalities clashing as part of why attempted recruitment into NXIVM failed.
