Earlier today it was revealed that director F. Gary Gray as the frontrunner to helm Fast And Furious 8 for Universal, in this report Variety also revealed that he’s also being considered to helm Marvel’s Black Panther. Other trade writers have since backed up this claim but no other details have emerged yet. It’s said that the Marvel Studios film could be what keeps Gray from signing on to direct the next installment in the Fast & Furious franchise.
Gray has been a fan-favorite for this film for quite some time and after the success of Straight Outta Compton, it should be no surprise that he’s currently on everyone’s radar. It’s also worth noting that this wouldn’t be the first time that Gray was in talks for a Marvel Studios film. The director was in the running to helm Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Kevin Feige recently revealed that we’d start to learn what directors would be helming the upcoming Phase Three films during the coming months, so it should be only a matter of time before we learn if Gray does indeed end up in the director’s chair for Black Panther.
Black Panther hits theaters July 6, 2018.
