The Harry Potter spin-off has so far grossed $231.8 million at the North American box office and $575.7 million overseas for a worldwide total of $807.5 million. It’s also getting quite lot of awards attention, as it recently picked up five BAFTA nominations and two Oscar nods for Costume Design and Production Design.
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.
Yates will be back in the director’s chair for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2, which begins filming this summer for a November 16, 2018 release. Are you excited?
