We are about a week away from the release of the Harry Potter related franchise, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, starring Eddie Redmayne as the lead. However, did you know that Redmayne auditioned for another big role in another huge franchise?
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor revealed he had actually auditioned for the role of the villainous Kylo Ren, who is being played by Adam Driver in the new Star Wars trilogy. He revealed the following about how he first didn’t know he was auditioning for that specific role.
“They gave me like a Star Trek scene — or like something from Pride and Prejudice. It was one of those films. With films that top secret, they don’t give you the actual lines. So they give you a scene from Pride and Prejudice, but then they tell you you’re auditioning for the baddie. If you’re me, you then put some ridiculous voice on.”
Redmayne then went into how it didn’t seem to work out no matter how hard he tried throughout the audition.
“That was a really hilarious moment. Because it was Nina Gold, who I have to thank a lot because she’s cast me in several films. And she was just sitting there and I was trying again and again with different versions of my kind of ‘koohh paaaah’ [Darth Vader breathing sound] voice. And after like 10 shots she’s like, ‘You got anything else?’ I was like, ‘No.'”
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens in theaters on November 18. Do you want to see Redmayne appear in a Star Wars film someday as some other character? Sound off in the comments below.
