With the release date of Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them quickly approaching, the marketing for the movie is reaching full blast. Today, courtesy of EW, we have a look at 9 brand new character posters.
Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne)
The star of the movie, Newt Scamander is an-Hogwarts student expelled for endangering human life with a beast. The film is centred around Newt as he arrives in a New York City, 1926, now a magizoologist, with a suitcase full of the titular fantastic beasts. Unfortunately for him, several escape, and begin wreaking havoc throughout the city, as well as threatening to expose the secret magical world of New York. Oh Newt you silly boy.
Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston)
Tina Goldstein was once an Auror for the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA), but was demoted after 'her heart overruled her head and she used unauthorised magic'. Her full name is Porpentina Goldstein, but she prefers Tina.
Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler)
A No-Maj (American for Muggle), Jacob Kowalski works in a cannery. He has bigger dreams of becoming a baker, but he can't secure himself a loan. However, his life will change completely when he befriends Newt, and goes inside that suitcase.
Seraphina Picquery (Carmen Ejogo)
Seraphina has been the President of MACUSA (equivalent of Minister for Magic in the UK) since 1920. A powerful and formidable witch, she is dedicated to maintaining the secrecy of her wizarding community. So, she's probably not too happy with Newt then.
Queenie Goldstein (Alison Sudol)
Tina's roommate, co-worker and younger sister, Queenie is a free spirit who doesn't care too much about her career. While her and her ambitious sister may differ in their personalities, they are both fiercely loyal and would do anything for each other. Oh, Queenie is also a Legilimens, so she can read people's minds.
Mary Lou Barebone (Samantha Morton)
Another No-Maj, Mary Lou is the fanatical leader of the New Salem Philanthropic Society (they also go by the Second Salamers). She dedicated her life to finding and destroying members of the magical community, and has enlisted her 3 adopted children in her crusade.
Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller)
The most withdrawn of Mary Lou's 3 adopted children, and the only male, he lives in constant fear of his 'mother's' tyrannical rules. However, he soon finds himself approached and befriended by Percival Graves, who is probably up to no good.
It is of note that the background of Credence's character poster includes a No-Maj wanted poster, centred on Newt and Jacob who have seemingly committed bank robbery.
Gnarlak (Ron Perlman)
A goblin gangster who runs a Harlem speakeasy. That's pretty much all we know about Gnarlak. Another wanted poster of Newt appears here, as does one of Tina, both claiming the pair have violated the International Statute of Secrecy. I wonder if that was before or after a wide range of magical creatures escaped Newt's suitcase.
Percival Graves (Colin Farrell)
Director of Magical Security for MACUSA, Graves is looking suitably evil in his poster. He is one of the highest-ranking wizarding officials in new York and is tasked with tracking down Newt and his creatures. He also shares some sort of connection with Credence, feeling compassion for him. And also, a little necklace featuring the Deathly Hallows themselves on it can be glimpsed in the poster. Whatever that means, I doubt it's that Graves is a good guy.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits theatres on November 18th.
