‘Finding Dory’ Wins Holiday Weekend Box Office


Despite a number of new releases arriving in theaters over this holiday weekend, Finding Dory will once again take the top spot at the box office. Dory has earned an estimated $41.9 million from Friday-Sunday and is expected to reach a total of $50 million for Friday-Monday.

This brings Dory’s domestic total to $272.2 million and globally has crossed $500 million, earning $538.2 million.

Newly released The Legend of Tarzan is coming in second place this weekend earning $38.1 million. The four day total is estimated to be around $44 million.

The Purge: Election Year didn’t top the box office this holiday weekend but it has already become a successful. The horror film only cost $10 million to make and it has already made an estimated $30.9 million and when the four-day gross is calculated that number could be north of $34 million.

The other wide release this weekend was Disney and Steven Spielberg’s BFG, which made $19.6 million.
