First ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Clip Released Online: ‘Enter The Animus’

There’s just over three weeks to go until Justin Kurzel’s live-action film adaptation of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed arrives in theaters, so the marketing campaign for the highly anticipated movie is now in full force. Today, 20th Century Fox released the first official clip from the upcoming adaptation, featuring Michael Fassbender’s Callum Lynch and Marion Cotillard’s mysterious Dr. Sophia Rikkin.

In the clip, Sophia forces Callum into the Animus with the help of several Abstergo employees. The Animus is the device that allows Callum to relive the memories of his ancestor, Aguilar de Nerha, who’s an Assassin living in 15th Century Spain.

Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.

The film stars Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, Michael K. Williams, Ariane Labed, Matias Varela, Denis Menochet, Khalid Abdalla, Javier Gutiérrez and Hovik Keuchkerian.

Assassin’s Creed opens in U.S. theaters on December 21, 2016.
