The pilot episode of the Marvel Freeform series Cloak & Dagger was just shown at South By Southwest, and from the sound of things, Marvel Entertainment has another winner. Praise was specifically aimed at the show’s two leads, who are described as “the reason to watch” future episodes of the show.
The show’s pilot was screened for attendees at SXSW, and while it had a later start than intended, the response to the series has been pretty warm all around:

The #CloakAndDagger first episode was a solid, promising start. That said, there’s nothing very new or different on display. If you like the current Marvel tv offerings, you’ll likely enjoy this. pic.twitter.com/e728sN2RA1

While @koertheous and I enjoyed the premiere of #CloakAndDagger and the two stars gave compelling performances that deserve praise, it was hard to get over the 5:10 start time when app said @ 4 and people were in line at 3 🤔🤔 people left panels to be on time & were pretty upset pic.twitter.com/Fennm60mYo

I’ll have more thoughts on the premiere episode of Marvel’s #CloakAndDagger up on the site soon, but let me just say this: the two young leads are immensely good. They’ll be the reason the watch.

The show will be Marvel’s first to air on Freeform, the network formerly known as ABC Family, and is targeting a young adult audience. Based on a pair of characters who made their debut in the pages of The Spectacular Spider-Man, Cloak & Dagger involves the personal journey of two young superheroes with superpowers the compliment each other as they face the perils of growing up and many of the ugliest problems in modern society.
The show was created by Joe Pokaski (Marvel’s Daredevil) and stars Olivia Holt, Aubrey Joseph, Andrea Roth, Gloria Reuben, Miles Mussenden, Carl Lundstedt, Emma Lahana, Jaime Zevallos and J. D. Evermore.
Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger will premiere on Freeform on June 7, 2018.
