First Look at Bruce Campbell in ‘Ash Vs. Evil Dead’

After a 22-year absence Bruce Campbell returns to play his iconic horror role as the horror hero Ash J. Williams in the new series Ash Vs. Evil Dead for Starz. Courtesy of Entertainment Weekly the first official image of the series has been released.

The series is based upon the highly popular Evil Dead franchise that had three films, a few video games, and a remake in 2013.  This series promises to capture the spirit of the original films and continue forward with its most iconic character Ash. In this picture Ash is joined by his fellow Value Shop employees Pablo played by Ray Santiago and Kelly played by Dana Delorenzo. The series will also star Lucy Lawless as another new character named Ruby.

The official synopsis states:

Bruce Campbell returns as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.

When asked about what Ash has been up to Bruce Campbell stated:

Not much! He was perfectly happy doing basically nothing: telling lies about how he lost his hand in bars late at night. That was basically his MO. So, he’s not really the guy who should be dealing with this right now. But…he is. He’s our guy!

Sam Raimi is the original writer and director of the films so it is fitting that he will also be directing the first episode of the new series.

Raimi added to Campbell’s statements:

He’s the only one stupid enough to really tamper with those spirits, and he does. But he’s also still a really good monster fighter. So, he’s also going to be kicking some deadite buttocks, if you’ll pardon the French.

As a fan of the original series I am excited that Ash is back and I will definitely be watching when it airs later this fall.
