Guy Ritchie will be putting his own unique spin on the classic King Arthur tale when King Arthur: Legend of the Sword arrives on March 24th. Charlie Hunnam is playing Arthur and Jude Law will be playing opposite as Vortigern.
The first look at Jude Law as Vortigern, Arthur’s uncle, has hit the web. Vortigern is known for killing Arthur’s dad and brother, in order to obtain the throne, causing Arthur to demand vengence. He also has the backing of some deadly dark magic. Vortigern is certainly the antagonist and looks to be embracing his power in this image.
With Ritchie directing this film, it’s clear that it will be a different take on the traditional “sword in the stone” story. Hunnam opened up about how this verison of Arthur would be different from the classic story. Maybe even borrowing from the street smarts that he embodied while filming FX’s Sons of Anarchy.
“He’s a bit rough around the edges, but he’s basically a survivor. There’s definitely a harder edge than people would imagine.”
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword stars Charlie Hunnam as the titular knight, Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey as Guinevere, Jude Law as Vortigen, Eric Bana as Uther Pendragon, Djimon Hounsou as Bedivere and more.
