Scarlett Johansson Stars In First Official ‘Ghost In The Shell’ Trailer

Scarlett Johansson’s Ghost In The Shell has been surrounded by controversy since the Oscar nominee’s casting was unveiled. Many believed the film was “white-washing” another property that could have easily starred an Asian actress in the lead role. However, the movie, which is based on the 1989 Japanese Manga series of the same name, received the stamp of approval from the original film’s director. The Hollywood version is rumoured to be based on the 1995 anime film, instead of the actual series of manga. And with that, we finally have our first substantial look at the blockbuster.

In the movie, Johansson plays The Major, a cyborg policewoman who is used to fighting hackers and such, only to now be thrust into a new mission with a new enemy, played by Boardwalk Empire star Michael Pitt. The film was directed by Rupert Sanders, who of course helmed Snow White And The Huntsman way back in 2012.

Plus, here’s a brand new poster for the movie.

What do you guys make of the first trailer? Are you excited for the movie? I for one cannot wait to see what Sanders and Johansson do with this property.

Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, “GHOST IN THE SHELL” follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

Ghost In The Shell hits theatres on March 31, 2017.

Wow, i did not like the trailer, the effects look cool, the city is amazing but the opening scene from the animated movie will probably be way better than what they tried here, i don’t think copying will do them any good, when she jumped, i didn’t fill the awe from the original scene, maybe it has something to do with the lighting, or the way that she falls, in the anime Motoko goes head first after like 1 second after the jump and we see her go really up close, in here she seems to be kind of floaty before the wide shot, even the scene taken from the opening credits about the manufacture of Motoko’s body, it felt a bit cheap for me, in the original that scene goes on for like three minutes and the music is just amazing, i’m not really feeling the soundtrack here.

What’s the s**t about her being the first? a bunch of people don’t have human bodies anymore, and she was a kid when she made the transition. The line from the villain made me cringe.
Please don’t make the action look like the matrix, there is no slowmo wall running in Ghost in the Shell, the cyborgs are agiles and super strong but they can’t bend the rules of physics.
