Scarlett Johansson’s Ghost In The Shell has been surrounded by controversy since the Oscar nominee’s casting was unveiled. Many believed the film was “white-washing” another property that could have easily starred an Asian actress in the lead role. However, the movie, which is based on the 1989 Japanese Manga series of the same name, received the stamp of approval from the original film’s director. The Hollywood version is rumoured to be based on the 1995 anime film, instead of the actual series of manga. And with that, we finally have our first substantial look at the blockbuster.
In the movie, Johansson plays The Major, a cyborg policewoman who is used to fighting hackers and such, only to now be thrust into a new mission with a new enemy, played by Boardwalk Empire star Michael Pitt. The film was directed by Rupert Sanders, who of course helmed Snow White And The Huntsman way back in 2012.

Plus, here’s a brand new poster for the movie.
