Those of us who enjoy costumed heroes know that there are few as well known and truly loved as our New York City web head, Spider-Man. Over the past 14 years, we’ve gotten 5 Spider-Man movies, which is frankly an insane amount. Tom Holland was the third actor to put on the iconic suit in this years smash hit, Captain America: Civil War. And ever since he wowed the entire world with his snarky and geeky Peter Parker/Spider-Man, fans everywhere have been begging Marvel and Sony to give Holland’s Spider-Man his own standalone film. We’ll that’s exactly what Marvel studios and Sony did, and now it seems as though we’re going to get our first look at the film when the trailer debuts in front of the Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Comicbook.com is reporting that sources close to the project have stated that the trailer will indeed be shown on December 16th to all of us who will be attending an opening night showing of Rogue One. As is per usual in this day and age, the trailer will most likely be released online shortly before that date (hooray). Comicbook.com also said that Sony has not yet commented on these statements, so it looks like for now we’ll just have to wait and see. From what we heard coming out of Comic Con though, it sounds like Marvel studios and Sony are nailing the tone with this iteration of our friendly neighborhood spider, and it sounds like this is going to be a massive hit for the two studios. With the recent confirmation that Michael Keaton will indeed be playing infamous villain Vulture, this film is really starting to come together, and seems as though it will have a different voice, and a different story to tell from the previous 5 Spider-Man adventures.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to release in theaters on July 7th, 2017, and stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Michael Keaton, and Marisa Tomei.
