Last night, The Flash Season Premiere, “The Flash Reborn,” gave us our first look at Neil Sandilands as Season 4 Big Bad, Clifford DeVoe, aka The Thinker.
The character was first mentioned last season by futuristic foe Abra Kadabra (David Dastmalchian), a villain from the 64th Century, who namechecked DeVoe (as seen above) in the same conversation as previous season-long Big Bads Eobard Thawne/Reverse Flash and Hunter Zolomon/Zoom.
We finally got our first look at DeVoe in the final moments of the Season 4 Premiere, where it was revealed that he, alongside his cohort The Mechanic (Kim Engelbrecht), were responsible for the “Samuroid” that was searching for The Flash. Just what The Thinker has in mind for the Scarlet Speedster is still yet to be seen, as executive producer Andrew Kreisberg explained that unlike all of the previous Big Bads, DeVoe does not want to destroy The Flash, he merely “has a need for him.”
The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash, Candice Patton as Iris West, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon/Vibe, Tom Cavanagh as Harrison Wells, Jesse L. Martin as Detective Joe West and Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West/Kid Flash. Here is the official synopsis:
Running up against an evil time remnant version of yourself is something no one should ever have to do, but that’s exactly what faced Barry Allen (aka The Flash) as he fought to save the life of fiancée Iris West from the God of Speed known as Savitar. Barry’s victory was short-lived, however, as an unbalanced Speed Force began to wreak havoc on Central City, forcing Barry to sacrifice himself for the greater good. With The Fastest Man Alive now trapped inside an extra-dimensional energy, and unknown dangers lurking in the shadows, it will be up to Team Flash to free Barry from his own personal Hell.
The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8/9c on The CW.
