Harrison Ford has immortalized himself into cinematic history in numerous ways. Because of his iconic roles in films such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Blade Runner, he is widely considered one of the greatest living movie stars. His characters in those films are so beloved that he revisited those roles decades after he last portrayed them.
Ford put on the fedora once again when he returned to play Indy in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull – 19 years after Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. He is also set to return to that world with a fifth film which is set to be released on July 10, 2020.
Ford also returned to play the famed space smuggler Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the first time since 1983’s Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi. Ford’s newest film, Blade Runner 2049 brings back Rick Deckard to the big screen for the first time in 35 years.
It is safe to say that the visceral impact of seeing iconic characters return to the big screen decades later is something truly special for audiences that remembered watching the original films in theaters when they were younger. Ford finds the idea of reintroducing classic stories to the next generation of audiences as part of why his numerous franchises are so special after all these years:
“[Blade Runner 2049] is an adult adventure; Indiana Jones are family kind of films, and one of the great opportunities of my life is that Indiana Jones, Star Wars, stuff like that, gets passed on generationally. And so seeing that – having your father say, ‘Come on, let’s go see this,’ or your mom say… that’s very special. And having new generations come along and it’s reintroduced again, it’s incredible.”
Ford stars alongside Ryan Gosling in Blade Runner 2049, which is currently receiving rave early reactions. The film will be released in theaters on October 6, 2017.
Although we will not see Ford reprising his role as Han Solo for obvious reasons, the impact his character had on our new characters like Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) will be prevalent throughout Star Wars: The Last Jedi when it arrives in our galaxy on December 15, 2017.
