Today has been all about Rogue One. New character details have surfaced, Darth Vader has been confirmed and now we know the name of Forest Whitaker’s character in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Whitaker will be playing Saw Gerrera.
This name is familiar to those who were fans of The Clone Wars animated series. Gerrera is a freedom fighter, with help from his sister he employed some radical tactics to rid his home-planet of the Separatist army.
This is historical for Star Wars, this marks the first time that an animated character has made the jump to live action. Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy, spoke with EW about Gerrera and how he will play a part within Rogue One.
“Consider him kind of a battered veteran who leads a band of Rebel extremists. He’s on the fringe of the Rebel Alliance. Even [they] are a little concerned about him.”
Directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forrest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, and Jonathan Aris, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story comes to a galaxy near you on December 16.
