Fox Was Planning To Film ‘Alien: Awakening’ In Summer Of 2018

AlienIt’s a safe bet that the most popular topic of discussion and chatter on the internet today was in regards to the Walt Disney Company’s whopping $52.4 billion purchase of 20th Century Fox and its assets including the X-Men and Fantastic Four properties but there are other film series that are now under the ownership of the House of Mouse including one of the most celebrated science-fiction and horror franchises of all time: Alien.

While this summer we saw Ridley Scott return once again to the franchise he helped shepherd into cinematic history with Alien: Covenant which was a hit with critics yet ultimately underperformed at the box office, that didn’t stop 20th Century Fox from ushering plans for the sixth Alien film’s follow-up.

A report from Omega Underground reveals that prior towards Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox,  there were not only plans for Scott to return to helm the next Alien film which was tentatively titled Alien: Awakening but was also slated to shoot in the summer of 2018 with Prometheus and Alien: Covenant producers Michael Pruss and Mark Huffam listed to once again produce the sequel.

The site further advises that Pruss and Huffam’s involvement would have meant that filming would once again take place at Fox Studios in Moore Park, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Given Disney’s purchase of 20th Century Fox the status of Alien: Awakening is currently unknown at the time of this writing but Scott revealed that the film’s plot would have emphasized more on the artificial intelligence that inhabited the Alien universe and stray away from the Xenomorphs themselves.

Stay tuned for more information on the Disney-Fox merger as well as the future of the Alien franchise as it becomes available.

Alien: Covenant is now available on 4K, Blu-Ray, DVD and digital.
