After the film became an unexpected hit at the box office, there was no doubt that Fox would want to move forward with a sequel to Mark Millar & Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Secret Service. And sure enough a sequel was shortly revealed to be in development by the studio and a new report reveals that they’re hoping to begin production very soon on the film. However, with Fox aiming to begin filming in April there’s a small issue the sequel might face with Taron Egerton starting production on Lionsgate’s Robin Hood: Origins in February.
But this shouldn’t really be an issue as the studios will likely find a way to work around that issue and keep the production on track. The big question now is whether or not Matthew Vaughn will return to direct. Writer and creator of the comic behind the film, Mark Millar, has recently stated that he believes that Vaughn will direct the film before moving on to his recently announced next project but there’s been no official word regarding the matter yet. Currently there is no release date set for the sequel but it’s likely we’ll see it hit theaters in early 2017.
