Frank Grillo Discusses ‘Civil War’ Spoilers, Disses Falcon

If you’re worried about potential spoilers for Captain America: Civil War, then this might be the opposite of a spoiler warning. In fact, the latest news is that one of the biggest spoilers that may have had you concerned is not coming to pass in the upcoming Marvel film.

The spoiler in question relates to the ultimate fate of Captain America himself. Those who have read the comic books are all too familiar with Cap’s death at the hands of Crossbones, the villain portrayed by actor Frank Grillo in the upcoming film. Grillo recently spoke about this particular plot detail, and noted that Cap’s death will not be shaking the MCU just yet.

“I spoke to Brubaker, who created Crossbones who’s a great dude, and I got some of the back issues and stuff and read the origins of Crossbones and where he came from. The thing with Marvel is they don’t always follow to the tee what the character did in the comic books. They use him in different ways. You never know what’s gonna happen. I know Crossbones in the comics kind of offs Cap at some point and we’re probably not gonna see that happen. I’m not gonna kill him yet.”

This “yet” may have some fans eager to see just what the future holds for Crossbones, as it would appear from this statement as if he’s going to survive the events of Civil War. In the meantime, Grillo has a bit to say about his villain’s role in Civil War, as well as where we last saw him in The Winter Soldier. He also (inadvertently) dishes out a bit of an insult toward Falcon.

Winter Soldier let off and I was in bad shape. I was just about to kill the Falcon—which is not hard. I think revenge is a big part of… Whatever Rumlow was feeling as far as being torn between which side he should be on, which I think he was, is gone now. I think he’s out for one thing and one thing only and that’s to revenge what’s happened to him.”

There’s not a whole lot to go on here, but it appears as if Crossbones will have it out for Falcon almost as much as he has it out for Cap when Civil War hits theaters this summer. Having played his role in Hydra’s takeover of SHIELD, he suffered massive injuries and is now going to be looking to seek vengeance for what he considers to be a wrongdoing toward his character. And while Grillo says that his character’s revenge narrative won’t result in a major death, we were also told that Mandarin would appear in Iron Man 3. This could easily be a simple ruse to keep the spoilers at bay.

We’ll find out for certain after the North American release of Captain America: Civil War on May 6, 2016.
