Friday Box Office: ‘The Boss Baby’ Bests ‘Beauty And The Beast’

Beauty and the Beast

Knocking Disney’s Beauty and the Beast out of the number one spot is the animated film, The Boss Baby, earning $15.5 million at the Friday box office. On Thursday night, the film grossed $1.5 million and it’s expected to end the weekend in first place with $50 million.

The film boasts the voice cast of Alec Baldwin, Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Kudrow, and Tobey Maguire. The film will open much higher than initially expected, which was set at $30 million.

Beauty and the Beast drops to second place with $13 million at the Friday box office, but there’s nothing to worry about here since the live-action fairy tale has already surpassed $360 million domestically and is expected to pick up another $48 million in its third weekend.

The Scarlett Johansson-starring Ghost in the Shell, based on the Japanese manga by Shirow Masamune, took in $7.7 million on Friday. The film cost $110 million to make and it’s looking at finishing the weekend with $20 million. Power Rangers slipped on Friday, landing behind Ghost in the Shell. Kong: Skull Island is still earning some good numbers, earning a gross amount of $2.4 million on Friday, bringing its total domestic total to $141.4 million.
