The previous season of Game of Thrones introduced viewers to Euron Greyjoy, the cunning uncle of Yara and Theon, who successfully claimed the Salt Throne after murdering his brother Balon. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, actor Pilou Asbaek previewed Euron Greyjoy’s role in the seventh season and compared his character to the sadistic Ramsay Bolton.
In addition to sporting a more sophisticated wardrobe compared to the disheveled look he had when introduced, Asbaek revealed that Euron will have a different attitude this season:
“He’s much more just f—ing enjoying himself this season. He’s more charming. He takes himself seriously, but not too seriously.”
Asbaek also compared Euron to Ramsay Bolton, explaining how his character will be different:
“Ramsay was a great character and to me was 100 percent evil. I think Euron is not. I’m more like a hooligan. The guy you met at the Kingsmoot is not the guy you will meet on his ship — he’s different with different people to get what he wants.”
Asbaek also shared his take on why Euron might see Cersei as his best chance to claim the Iron Throne:
“For Euron, the question is, ‘Who gives me the best odds? Is it the dragon mother? No. Is it with Cersei? I think it is. Dany is still trying to be a good, decent, honest person. Cersei sold her soul many years ago.”
