‘Game Of Thrones’ Makes History With Most Primetime Emmy Wins Ever

Game of Thrones Emmy Awards

Last night was a BIG night for HBO and Game of Thrones.  The HBO drama not only won the Emmy for Best Television Drama, but made history as the most decorated drama in Emmy history.

Game of Thrones went into last night’s 68th Primetime Emmy Awards 2016 nominated for a whopping 23 nominations and took home 12 awards. Although Thrones lost in the acting categories, they went on to take home best writing in a drama series, best directing in a drama series and best drama. This is the second year in a row that the HBO drama has won.

With last night’s wins, Thrones Emmy wins total 38, surpassing Frasier as the primetime show with the most wins in award show history. This is quite impressive on its own merit but even more so because Frasier was on air for 11 seasons, compared to Thrones who completed their 6th this past summer.

Showrunners David Benioff & D.B. Weiss thanked George R.R. Martin for supplying them with the wonderful world of Game of Thrones and allowing them to bring his vision to life.
