Warning: Major Spoilers Ahead!
Last season of Game of Thrones concluded with Sansa Stark, played by Sophie Turner, finally reclaiming her home of Winterfell from Ramsay Bolton with the help of Jon Snow, Ser Davos Seaworth, the Free Folk and Petyr ‘Littlefinger’ Baelish. Speaking with EW, Sophie Turner revealed that despite the victory, Sansa will continue to face challenges when the seventh season begins.
Sophie Turner explained that despite Sansa’s growing confidence, maintaining her newfound position of power will be a struggle for the character.
“She’s seemingly in control for the first time – and it really suits her. She’s kind of having a bit of a power trip. But she’s also becoming more insecure, because there are threats to the power that she holds.”
Sophie Turner also revealed that most excites her about the upcoming penultimate season.
“What overall excites me about this season is that main characters are coming together and it feels like things are ramping up. It’s really exciting and all feels like it’s coming to a big conclusion.”
While Sophie Turner would not reveal which new characters Sansa may finally meet or who will threaten her position of power, fans have speculated that Jon Snow’s appointment as “King in the North”, despite Sansa being the eldest (and presumed to be last) living legitimate child of Ned and Catelyn stark, will be a source of conflict between the siblings.
The seventh season of Game of Thrones is scheduled to air on HBO in Summer 2017.
