Gareth Edwards Encourages Fans To Look Closely For Easter Eggs In ‘Rogue One’

Rogue One director Gareth Edwards has been very open about his passion towards Star Wars and his desire to make this a different kind of movie within the Star Wars franchise. Edwards appeared on The Star Wars Show and opened up about the process of making Rogue One and to hint at some important Easter Eggs that have been scattered throughout the movie.

“There’s some Easter Eggs. In Saw’s [Gerrera, played by Forest Whitaker] cave, there are some cave paintings. One of them is of the creatures that were in my first film, called Monsters, and then there’s a Godzilla. I didn’t ask for it, I just came in one day and saw it.”

For Edwards working on Star Wars was an amazing opportunity and it also gave him the chance to work with some of his professional heroes. One of those heroes being, John Knoll, the visual effect supervisor on Rogue One.

“John Knoll is our visual effect supervisor on Rogue One. He was a massive hero of mine – my background was in visual effects. I sat for ten years in my bedroom, trying to make computer graphics, and I’d put on the making of Star Wars to keep me motivated. You’d hear John Knoll talking to George and things like this. Sometimes, accidentally, I’d end up in this situation where I’d hear that voice and think, ‘oh there’s that guy from Making of Star Wars.’ Then I realize that I’m that other guy now, talking about what a ship should look like, what a shot should be.”

Fan anticipation has reached new heights for Rogue reported that Rogue One is leading the site in presale tickets for 2016. Fandango reported that Monday was it’s highest sales for advance tickets this year and that Rogue One was the second highest in pre-ticketing sales, only behind The Force Awakens.

Before the release, Disney and Lucasfilm are moving full steam ahead with promotion for the film with a special Twitter live stream event taking place on Friday, December 2 at 10 a.m. PST. The event is being put together by Disney, Lucasfilm and People Magazine.

The live stream will feature never-before-seen content and a Q&A with Gareth Edwards, in addition to cast members from Rogue One including, Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk and Riz Ahmed.
