Geoff Johns Announces His Return To Comics; New DCTV Show Coming Soon

geoff-johnsThe DC TV Universe has grown over the past couple of years, with The CW currently airing four series with Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. In addition to that, they have the DC Comics/Vertigo series iZombie which will kick off its third season in April.

Over at FOX, we have the Batman prequel series Gotham along with the DC/Vertigo series Lucifer. The next TV season might also see the arrival of Black Lightning which got a pilot production commitment back in the fall, with CW DC producer Greg Berlanti attached. SyFy announced its full cast for the Superman prequel series Krypton that currently has a pilot order.

However, it looks like more properties could be coming to the small screen. DC Films co-head and President/CCO of DC Entertainment, Geoff Johns, teased on Twitter that along with the ongoing shows, a new show is going to get announced soon.

“5) More #DCTV @CW_TheFlash @CW_Arrow @Gotham @TheCW_Legends @LuciferonFOX @TheCWSupergirl and many more! One which will be announced soon..”

What could the mystery show be? Only time will tell, but there is more exciting news. Johns finished his top 5 list with the reveal that he is going to return to comic writing very soon.

“And 1) Writing comics again… stay tuned! Happy New Year!!!”

In addition to that, Johns celebrated the arrival of the two new DC Films that we will see in 2017, with Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Last, but not least, he geeked out about the upcoming sequel to the Injustice video game.

Wonder Woman opens on June 2, while Justice League opens on November 17.

Gotham Season 3 returns on Monday, January 16 at 8/7c on FOX. Supergirl Season 2 returns on Monday, January 23, The Flash Season 3 on Tuesday, January 24 and Arrow Season 5 on Wednesday, January 25, all respectively at 8/7c on The CW. DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 will be moving to a new timeslot as of January 24 at 9/8c, also on The CW.

Lucifer Season 2 returns on Monday at 9/8c on FOX, with iZombie Season 3 set to premiere on Tuesday, April 4 with a two-hour premiere starting at 8/7c before returning to its regular slot at 9/8c on The CW the following week.

Injustice 2 will be available sometime in 2017 with no release date announced as of yet.

Dude sounds more like an independent auteur, than an actual film production head of dceu…Expect another regime change announcement at the rudderless ship called dceu.

So is Rebirth #2 happening? Also how involved is Johns with all these DCEU movie projects if he has time to write comics again?

This man is truly a phenom. Can’t wait to see what he has in store for us in 2017.

  • Daniel Dion

My bet, it’s an HBO series.

    • SAMURAI36

Eh, I’m kinda indifferent on that.

For the idiots wondering how Johns has time for comics and movies…

    1) That’s part of what a CCO does. It amazes me how little people know about the inner workings of this stuff. Movies isn’t the only thing that’s under his purview. DC Entertainment is a multimedia company, and Johns touches all aspects.

    2) It’s just one story that he’s doing now. Not the half-dozen books that he used to write. I’m sure he can manage one story. It’s called multi-tasking.

      SPIN ON, sammy, SPIN ON!

      Keep mining for turd nuggets.

Multi-tasking has been widely decried as a terrible practice, that results in unnecessary errors and otherwise poor results.

hmm… It seems I have just proven you right about Geoff Johns. He must have been in charge of DC this whole time.

I’m not celebrating here, I’m actually kinda sad.

Booster Gold or Superman is my guess.

A Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman show would kill, but I don’t think we are going to be that lucky. Legion of Superheroes, Booster Gold, The Question, or bringing back Matt Ryan Constantine would be pretty cool too. Probably they are going to spinoff the JSA or something like that.

There was something announced about a CW show with a young woman involved with magic. Be great if this is Zatanna. Could use more female lead superhero shows.

Well, he seems to be writing at least the unfolding of how Rebirth came to be and how Manhattan f…d with Flashpoint’s reformation. After all, he did do the Rebirth #1 so it’s only normal that he does how that story unfolds as well.

And honestly, I was afraid that they’d relegate that story to some other writer. However strong writers are in DC stable (Joshua Williamson was killing it post-Rebirth on Flash, just spectacular, for only one example) Johns has a unique storytelling focus in that his narrative, gigantic arcs ( Blackest Night, Flashpoint to name only two) is somehow the best in industry.
