With season four of Gotham currently underway we have seen the origins of various characters from Batman’s rogues’ gallery and allies alike slowly growing into the characters that we’ve come to know and love from the comic books. However, it’s David Mazouz ‘s role as a younger Bruce Wayne who finally begins his metamorphosis towards becoming the Dark Knight that comes into the fold this season.
Screen Rant reports that during this past weekend’s New York Comic Con, the young actor teases that dark times lie ahead for Bruce in his journey towards becoming the Caped Crusader and that Ra’s al Ghul (Alexander Siddig) will play a key role in shaping his destiny:
“Bruce’s relationship with Ra’s is going to be the most important relationship he has actually this year. Ra’s is going to take the last strand of boyish innocence that Bruce possesses and snap it in two – very soon actually. You’re not going to have to wait long to see that…Because of a very tragic episode that happens with Bruce and Ra’s, he’s going to transform as a human and he’s never going to be the same ever again. He’s really going to lose all of his naivety, all of his innocence, and he’s going to see the world for what it is, this unforgiving, disgusting place and especially Gotham — it’s 10 times that.”
Mazouz also delved into how Bruce is finally adopting an albeit younger version of his billionaire playboy persona that he commonly uses to keep his secret identity a closely guarded secret and how that he will continue to do so as the series continues:
“What we saw in the last episode…that was just a tease. It’s going to go six hundred million times that in coming episodes and coming scenes. Bruce is going to become a different person. Because of a tragedy that happens, it’s going to change him and it’s going to turn him into that person. He becomes somebody that nobody should be proud of, and that Alfred definitely isn’t proud of, and it gets really dark but it’s been so much fun to play.”
There is no doubt it is sounding more and more as if the relationship between Bruce and Alfred will continue to be put to the test as the young billionaire continues to make his journey towards becoming the Batman.
Gotham stars Ben McKenzie as Detective Jim Gordon, Donal Logue as Detective Harvey Bullock, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth, Morena Baccarin as Dr. Leslie Thompkins, Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma/The Riddler, Carmen Bicondova as Selina Kyle, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, Jessica Lucas as Tabitha Galavan, Chris Chalk as Lucius Fox, Drew Powell as Butch Gilzean, Maggie Geha as Ivy Pepper, Benedict Samuel as Jervis Tetch/The Mad Hatter and Michael Chiklis as Captain Nathaniel Barnes.
