While The CW has established its own DC TV Universe with Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow, a.k.a. the Arrowverse, FOX’s Batman prequel Gotham has always been kept as separate from that world. Given that Gotham and the Arrowverse shows are on two separate networks, crossovers aren’t as easy to execute, compared to shows that are on the same network.
But that is not stopping David Mazouz, (Bruce Wayne a.k.a. Gotham City’s future hero, Batman) who recently expressed interest for a crossover with the four Greg Berlanti superhero shows and the Dark Knight prequel. At Heroes & Villain Fan Fest, Mazouz pitched how a crossover could happen through time travel, an element that The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow use heavily.
“I feel like we could easily do a Flash crossover, because he travels in time now. The biggest obstacle before The Flash came out, when it was just Arrow, was that Gotham is set in the past and Arrow was set in the present. We were not in the same time period, so how could we possibly do a crossover? However, now that we know time travel was not only introduced, but widely used in the Flarrowverse with Legends of Tomorrow and The Flash, it’s very plausible that a crossover could happen, because they could come back in time and visit Gotham. I would totally support it. I’m a huge fan. I think that would be awesome.”
While we have never seen Bruce Wayne in the Arrowverse, Gotham City is confirmed to exist on Kara Zor-El’s Earth. We also know that on Earth-38, Batman definitely exists as he has been hinted at a few times in the second season. In addition to that, the last shot of The Flash pilot showed us several news headlines, including the one that says “Wayne Tech/Queen Inc Merger Complete”, indicating that in an alternative version of 2024, Oliver Queen and Bruce become business partners.
Chances of a Gotham/Arrowverse crossover are slim, but you never know what could happen down the line. Although if a crossover were to happen, it would probably also have to involve more than just time travel as Gotham most likely exists as its own Earth rather than being part of Earth-1 or Earth-38.
