’Gotham’ WonderCon 2017 Interview: Erin Richards On Barbara’s Upcoming Transformation

Gotham WonderCon 2017 Erin RichardsThis season of Gotham has been all sorts of crazy (good) as we have seen monsters invade Gotham City as well as the rising of several villains, including Edward Nygma as he is now approaching his comic book destiny as The Riddler. The second half of the third season will officially kick off towards the end of this month as the Heroes Rise storyline will take Bruce Wayne closer towards his destiny as the Caped Crusader of the city.

Last week Heroic Hollywood participated in the Gotham press room where we chatted with the actors and producers behind the show to get some teases about what’s coming up in Season 3 when the show returns later this month. We were fortunate enough to talk with Erin Richards who plays the dangerous Barbara Kean, one of the butt-kicking Sirens.

That day, Richards had teased at the panel that she may be doing some extra comic book research for the end of season, teasing that Barbara is supposedly going through some sort of transformation. Richards was asked about how significant the evolution would be for Barbara in the last few episodes as well as carry into future seasons.

“Well It will be a big change for her in her personality because of what happens. They have spoken to me about how it would play out, but obviously I can’t tell you [laughs] But it would be a new different dimension for her.”

More highlights from the full roundtable interview:

-How Barbara will remain a fighter as a citizen of Gotham City with everything that is coming.

-What has been the most fun aspect of playing a character like Barbara.

-Richards’ reactions to reading the season three finale script and how she knew it would be a big one for her in terms of production.

“GOTHAM (Mondays, 8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) The origin story continues on Season Three of GOTHAM, and the stakes are higher than ever, as Super-Villains more ambitious and depraved are introduced, and a realignment of alliances shakes up the fight for power in Gotham City.

Season Three will peel back the curtain on the infamous criminal organization known as the Court of The Owls. With the Indian Hill escapees on the loose, JIM GORDON (Ben McKenzie) must take matters into his own hands as a bounty hunter in Gotham. He makes it his mission to find HUGO STRANGE (guest star BD Wong), the mastermind behind the horrifying Indian Hill experiments, and FISH MOONEY (guest star Jada Pinkett Smith), one of Strange’s subjects. Meanwhile, GCPD Detective HARVEY BULLOCK (Donal Logue) and Captain NATHANIEL BARNES (Michael Chiklis) remain at the forefront of the fight against crime in the monster-ridden city. Also, BRUCE WAYNE (David Mazouz), with the help of his trusted butler and mentor, ALFRED PENNYWORTH (Sean Pertwee), and former Wayne Enterprises employee, LUCIUS FOX (Chris Chalk), discovers there are still more secrets to uncover regarding his parents’ murders.

As the city sinks deeper into chaos, GOTHAM will continue to follow the evolving stories of the city’s most malevolent villains: THE PENGUIN (Robin Lord Taylor); EDWARD NYGMA/the future RIDDLER (Cory Michael Smith); SELINA KYLE/the future CATWOMAN (Camren Bicondova); BARBARA KEAN (Erin Richards), TABITHA GALAVAN/TIGRESS (Jessica Lucas) and BUTCH GILZEAN (Drew Powell). The series also will catch up with the future POISON IVY (Maggie Geha), who, after an encounter with a monster from Indian Hill, finds herself reborn as a young woman who’s harnessed the full power of her charms; and will dive into the origin stories of JERVIS TETCH/MAD HATTER (Benedict Samuel), a talented hypnotist teetering on the edge of madness; and the TWEED BROTHERS.”

Gotham: Heroes Rise will be back with all-new episodes on Monday, April 24 at 8/7c on FOX. Make sure to check back at Heroic Hollywood after every single episode of Season 3 for our weekly reviews. Don’t forget to check out our other roundtable interviews with the cast and producers of the series, including Danny Cannon (executive producer) and Jessica Lucas (Tabitha Galavan).

5 Batgirl Stories That Should Shape Joss Whedon’s Film

Previous1 of 6

BatgirlWell, now that we all know Batgirl will be getting her own movie, directed by Joss Whedon no less, it’s time to start thinking about what kind of film it will be. Yeah, we had a Batgirl in the terrible Batman and Robin movie, but she wasn’t even Barbara Gordon. Gordon is so clearly the most iconic Batgirl it’s ridiculous they thought to make up some other character for the movie.

Don’t worry though, loyal Batgirl fans. It’s already been confirmed Barbara will star in the movie. While there is always room for Whedon to develop his own stories for the character, it’s more likely he will draw from a few different comics to give audiences a well-rounded introduction to the character.

So hit Next to find out more about 5 Batgirl stories Joss Whedon’s DC Extended Universe movie should borrow ideas from.
