This season of Gotham has been all sorts of crazy (good) as we have seen monsters invade Gotham City as well as the rising of several villains, including Edward Nygma as he is now approaching his comic book destiny as The Riddler. The second half of the third season will officially kick off towards the end of this month as the Heroes Rise storyline will take Bruce Wayne closer towards his destiny as the Caped Crusader of the city.
Last week Heroic Hollywood participated in the Gotham press room where we chatted with the actors and producers behind the show to get some teases about what’s coming up in Season 3 when the show returns later this month. We were fortunate enough to talk with Cory Michael Smith who plays Edward Nygma also soon to be known as The Riddler as he is rising in the second half of the season.
The last episode ended with Nygma taking the final step to embracing his inner evil by shooting his former best friend Oswald Cobbelpot a.k.a. The Penguin and then pushing him into the river, as that was his way of getting Oswald out of his life. Smith was asked about what would happen to Edward if he were to ever encounter Oswald again and how that would affect his progress as the next big villain.
“Well it would be pretty humiliating and infuriating. Maybe [he gets] excited, he gets to kill him again! Get to shoot him twice? Maybe I regret that there was only one bullet, we can fix that. I think certainly it fuels a very exciting antagonism on the show. I think it can be the beginning of a pretty exciting war that can be destructive for the city. There’s a lot of potential [with that].”
More highlights from the full roundtable interview:
-How Edward goes to get his Riddler costume and who on the production designed it.
-What part of his character that Smith would like to explore more once he gets into Riddler mode.
-Whether or not Nygma clashes with the Court of Owls or the League of Shadows and if he might team up with some of Gotham’s villains.
-What character that he hasn’t gotten to interact a lot with that he would like to have more scenes with.
-Smith on the chances of seeing another love interest for Nygma this season.
“GOTHAM (Mondays, 8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) The origin story continues on Season Three of GOTHAM, and the stakes are higher than ever, as Super-Villains more ambitious and depraved are introduced, and a realignment of alliances shakes up the fight for power in Gotham City.
Season Three will peel back the curtain on the infamous criminal organization known as the Court of The Owls. With the Indian Hill escapees on the loose, JIM GORDON (Ben McKenzie) must take matters into his own hands as a bounty hunter in Gotham. He makes it his mission to find HUGO STRANGE (guest star BD Wong), the mastermind behind the horrifying Indian Hill experiments, and FISH MOONEY (guest star Jada Pinkett Smith), one of Strange’s subjects. Meanwhile, GCPD Detective HARVEY BULLOCK (Donal Logue) and Captain NATHANIEL BARNES (Michael Chiklis) remain at the forefront of the fight against crime in the monster-ridden city. Also, BRUCE WAYNE (David Mazouz), with the help of his trusted butler and mentor, ALFRED PENNYWORTH (Sean Pertwee), and former Wayne Enterprises employee, LUCIUS FOX (Chris Chalk), discovers there are still more secrets to uncover regarding his parents’ murders.
As the city sinks deeper into chaos, GOTHAM will continue to follow the evolving stories of the city’s most malevolent villains: THE PENGUIN (Robin Lord Taylor); EDWARD NYGMA/the future RIDDLER (Cory Michael Smith); SELINA KYLE/the future CATWOMAN (Camren Bicondova); BARBARA KEAN (Erin Richards), TABITHA GALAVAN/TIGRESS (Jessica Lucas) and BUTCH GILZEAN (Drew Powell). The series also will catch up with the future POISON IVY (Maggie Geha), who, after an encounter with a monster from Indian Hill, finds herself reborn as a young woman who’s harnessed the full power of her charms; and will dive into the origin stories of JERVIS TETCH/MAD HATTER (Benedict Samuel), a talented hypnotist teetering on the edge of madness; and the TWEED BROTHERS.”
Gotham: Heroes Rise will be back with all-new episodes on Monday, April 24 at 8/7c on FOX. Make sure to check back at Heroic Hollywood after every single episode of Season 3 for our weekly reviews. 6 Bat Family Members Who Deserve Their Own Solo Films
The DC Extended Universe continues to grow, with one of the most recent surprises being that of the announcement of Joss Whedon taking the reigns on a Batgirl solo movie. In addition to this, there’s been talks of a Nightwing project from The Lego Batman Movie helmer Chris McKay. These two characters are crucial elements to the Batman mythos as well as members of the Bat Family. There have been several characters that have been a part of the Bat Family in different ways and many of them have the potential to have films of their own. If the DCEU decided to give them their own solo projects it is best to look at the few that a solo film could really work in their favor. Not all characters deserve solo films, but these following ones certainly do. Here are 6 Bat Family members who deserve their own solo films
