Greg Berlanti Talks Katie Cassidy’s Return To The Arrowverse

Arrowverse Katie Cassidy ArrowLast summer at San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that Katie Cassidy would be returning to the DC TV Universe across the whole Arrowverse with Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, similar to John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn) and Wentworth Miller’s (Captain Cold) contracts. This came a few months after the death of her character Dinah Laurel Lance a.k.a. the Black Canary in the fourth season of the Green Arrow series. So far, Cassidy has appeared in three episodes of Arrow’s fifth season through flashbacks (5.01), a dream world (5.08) as well as appearing in the flesh during the mid-season finale last month.

A recent trailer for the mid-season premiere reveals that the Laurel that Oliver found in the cave may not be the same one that he lost last year. Greg Berlanti, executive producer and show-runner of all the four DC shows on The CW, recently spoke with Comic Book Resources where he talked a bit about Cassidy’s return to the Arrowverse.

“We made a deal at the end of that season to bring her back for a bunch of episodes. Katie is a part of the fabric of the show. Because the show, like a comic book, can move in different ways, and characters go and come, everybody that’s ever been a part of the key and core ensemble has always had a place at the table for our show. There’s the capacity for her to be [in all four shows]. At this moment, she’s in three of them.”

“Who Are You?” — (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-14, LV) (HDTV)

OLIVER WANTS JUSTICE; FELICITY WANTS REVENGE — Worried that Prometheus is right and he is truly a killer at heart, Oliver (Stephen Amell) looks for any ray of hope and finds it in what seems to be the miraculous return of Laurel Lance (guest star Katie Cassidy). However, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), still reeling from Detective Malone’s murder, is bent on revenge – she wants to stop Prometheus at any cost. While in prison, Diggle (David Ramsey) fights for his life. Gregory Smith directed the episode written by Ben Sokolowski & Brian Ford Sullivan (#510).  Original airdate 1/25/2017.

Arrow Season 5 returns with new episodes on Wednesday, January 25 at 8/7c on The CW. Make sure to check back at Heroic Hollywood after every single episode of Season 5 for our weekly reviews.
