** This article contains mild spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 **
One character that was a surprising highlight in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film was Drax the Destroyer, played by former WWE Superstar-turned-actor Drax Bautista. I was completely blown away by the performer’s turn as the character and he looks primed to steal the show this May when the sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters.
Speaking to ComicBook.com, Bautista spoke about a scene in the film in which series newcomer Mantis (played by Pom Klementieff), who is an empath with the ability to feel others’ emotions with a touch, feels the pain that Drax lives with. Here’s what he said about the scene:
“It’s such an ingenious way to tell a story because Drax is so heartbroken over the loss of his family, which we touched upon in the first one, but it’s so amazing that they can tell this story without Drax having to break down but through Mantis’ character because her character is so beautiful and so emotional. So, I think it was such an ingenious way to tell the story but not only to tell that story of Drax’s heartbreak but also to build that connection between Drax and Mantis. I mean it’s a really brilliant way to tell a story.”
The actor also shared some praise for his co-star in the aforementioned scene:
“I have to give credit to that scene to Pom [Klementieff], who is just an amazing actress. Her range of emotions is absolutely amazing. She has a strength and that’s delivering a funny line in a deadpan manner but she really has that strength, as well. Across the board, she’s just really talented.”
Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
Directed by James Gunn, the film stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Kurt Russell, Sean Gunn, Elizabeth Debicki, Glenn Close, Michael Rosenbaum and Sylvester Stallone.

10 Cosmic Heroes We Want To See In ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3’
It’s official: James Gunn has confirmed that that he will be returning to both write and direct the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie, which is just phenomenal news. Gunn has created something really special with these films. He took third-tier (at best) comic book characters that most fans didn’t yet know they needed to love and turned their story into not one, but two blockbuster movies that are major hits, both critically (Vol. 2 is getting mostly positive buzz on social media following press screenings) and financially (the sequel’s currently tracking at about $150 million for its opening weekend).
In his Facebook post, Gunn stated that Guardians Vol. 3 will “conclude the story of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and help catapult both old and new Marvel characters into the next ten years and beyond.” He also made a brief mention of “some of the other forthcoming heroes” that could be appearing in the series. With these things in mind, we thought it would be a wonderful idea to explore some of the cosmic Marvel characters that fans might like to see in the third installment.
Before we jump in, a couple caveats. While it would surely be a lot of fun to see some of the Earthbound MCU characters mixing it up with the team in space, this list is only going to feature cosmic-based Marvel characters. The film will hit theaters after the Guardians’ introduction to Tony and Cap and the gang in Avengers: Infinity War, so we may still see that happen anyway. Also, I’m sure there are plenty of fantastic cosmic villains that would be great fits to antagonize the team in the third film, but we’re only focusing on the good guys in this list. Also, as amazing as it would be to see Silver Surfer or Galactus in the MCU, we’re not including anyone that Marvel doesn’t currently own the rights to, so don’t expect to see Agent Venom or Kitty Pryde or any of the other non-MCU characters that have served on the team in the comics on this list either. Also, it should be noted that I have not yet seen Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, so if any of these characters do appear, my apologies for the wasted entry.
