‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2’ Opens To $6.6 Million In International Debut

While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is still a little over one week away from hitting North American theaters, the film already made it’s debut in three foreign markets this Tuesday. Now, The Hollywood Reporter writes that the highly anticipated sequel opened to an impressive $6.6 million in it’s international debut.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that the film grossed three times more than the first Guardians of the Galaxy film in Australia with $4.5 million, placing it behind only The Avengers as the second-highest opening day for a Marvel project.

The film opened to $1.4 million in Italy and earned $700,000 in it’s New Zealand debut.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is on track to reach or even surpass $100 million in it’s international opening.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is currently tracking to debut between $130 and $150 million in North America.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Directed by James Gunn, the film stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Glenn Close, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki and Kurt Russell.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be released in theaters on May 5, 2017.

Guardians of the GalaxyGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is almost upon us, but we’re already talking about what’s next for our favorite ragtag group of cosmic heroes. It’s already been announced that writer/director James Gunn will return for a third outing in the Marvel franchise, with the upcoming sequel getting positive buzz on social media based from early screenings. Of course, the Guardians are also due to return for the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War films as well, teaming up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes against Thanos as he gathers the Infinity Stones together to wield ultimate power.

Gunn commented on Facebook that the third film will “conclude the story of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and help catapult both old and new Marvel characters into the next ten years and beyond.” While Phase 4 hasn’t been officially announced, it’s assumed that this third film will be Marvel Studios’ kick-off movie for their next batch of films, most likely eyeing a May 2020 release.

With a third Guardians of the Galaxy film on the horizon, where could they possibly go for the next movie?
