There are many reasons why the Guardians of the Galaxy films stand out within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For one, no films within the MCU have such an eclectic group of characters like the Guardians. Also, once you factor in all of the campiness of a space opera as well as the backdrop of a retro soundtrack, audiences can immediately see how director James Gunn allows his imagination to run wild with his love for the characters as well as genre storytelling.
One of the other reasons why the Guardians films are different from the other MCU entries is that they are the only two films in the franchise that have opening credits sequences. The opening credits sequence from the first film features Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) dancing his way to collect an Orb to the tune of Redbone’s “Come and Get Your Love” whereas Vol. 2 begins with Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) setting up the speakers to play Electric Light Orchestra’s “Mr. Blue Sky” as he dances amidst his fellow Guardians as they try to defeat an inter-dimensional monster.
As it turns out, there is a reason why both films have such exciting opening credits sequences. Gunn revealed on his official Twitter that he always loved opening credits ever since he first watched Grease when he was younger:
Because I wrote them into the screenplay – I fell in love with fun credit sequences as a child watching Grease. https://t.co/ZkwLrLKrE7

Gunn’s comments must also imply that he intends to have another opening credits sequence in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. What song do you hope will be used when the Guardians embark on their adventure in Vol. 3? Sound off in the comments below.
Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
Directed by James Gunn, the film stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.

10 Cosmic Heroes We Want To See In ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3’
It’s official: James Gunn has confirmed that that he will be returning to both write and direct the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie, which is just phenomenal news. Gunn has created something really special with these films. He took third-tier (at best) comic book characters that most fans didn’t yet know they needed to love and turned their story into not one, but two blockbuster movies that are major hits, both critically and commercially.
In his Facebook post, Gunn stated that Guardians Vol. 3 will “conclude the story of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and help catapult both old and new Marvel characters into the next ten years and beyond.” He also made a brief mention of “some of the other forthcoming heroes” that could be appearing in the series. With these things in mind, we thought it would be a wonderful idea to explore some of the cosmic Marvel characters that fans might like to see in the third installment.
Before we jump in, a couple caveats. While it would surely be a lot of fun to see some of the Earthbound MCU characters mixing it up with the team in space, this list is only going to feature cosmic-based Marvel characters. The film will hit theaters after the Guardians’ introduction to Tony and Cap and the gang in Avengers: Infinity War, so we may still see that happen anyway. Also, I’m sure there are plenty of fantastic cosmic villains that would be great fits to antagonize the team in the third film, but we’re only focusing on the good guys in this list. Also, as amazing as it would be to see Silver Surfer or Galactus in the MCU, we’re not including anyone that Marvel doesn’t currently own the rights to, so don’t expect to see Agent Venom or Kitty Pryde or any of the other non-MCU characters that have served on the team in the comics on this list either. Also, it should be noted that I have not yet seen Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, so if any of these characters do appear, my apologies for the wasted entry.
Now, without further adieu, here are the 10 cosmic Marvel heroes we want to see in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Hit the next button below to begin!
