Guillermo del Toro opened up about his scrapped Justice League Dark film and why he is interested in that side of the DC Universe.

Guillermo del Toro is always developing a number of projects, and one was a Justice League Dark film for Warner Bros. and DC. Other directors like Doug Liman have also tried to bring Justice League Dark to the big screen, but have failed.

DC Universe has most recently brought Swamp Thing to their streaming service, however the show was notoriously canceled after one season. There are rumors that a Swamp Thing movie could happen, however, nothing has been confirmed. John Constantine is another Justice League Dark character who has had trouble in live-action. At San Diego Comic Con, Guillermo del Toro spoke to ComicBook.com  about his Justice Leauge Dark film and talked about his love for those characters:

“Well, I co-wrote a whole screenplay on Justice League Dark for Warner Bros., so that’s your answer. I love Deadman, I love Demon, I love Swamp Thing…Zatanna. That’s a universe, is one thing. I’m very attracted to that side of the DC Universe.”

Guillermo del Toro has tackled numerous comic book films like Hellboy and Blade II, but the Academy Award-winning director has no interest in a superhero film:

“But I’m not a superhero guy. For me to like a superhero, the superhero needs to be a monster. I’m not into those things, I’ve never been. I’m always in favor of monster narratives. That’s what I like. Or, I love noir. I love police, crime dramas. I love science fiction.”

Do you think a Justice League Dark movie will ever get made? Do you think Guillermo del Toro will direct another comic book movie? Do you think Guillermo del Toro could possibly direct the rumored Swamp Thing film? Comment below!
