Harry Potter fans at both the California and Florida Universal Studios’ Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme parks raised their wands high following the news of John Hurt’s death. The late actor portrayed Mr. Ollivander, the master wandmaker responsible for helping Harry find his wand, in the movies.
Adding to the moment, Hurt’s death came just before the Orlando, Florida, theme park celebrated its annual Harry Potter Celebration. Photos of the touching tribute were shared on Twitter and other social media sites.

Gathering outside of the Ollivander’s Wand Shops, the loyal fans extended the gesture of tribute found in both the books and the movies to the man who helped guide Harry’s way. This tribute was also used after the passing of Alan Rickman, who played Severus Snape in the films.
It’s clear that Potterheads across the country are feeling the loss of Hurt, and although Mr. Ollivander often found things curious, there’s nothing curious about a tribute like this at all.
