Superman actor Henry Cavill is excited for Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker standalone movie from director Todd Phillips.

It seems that fans and critics aren’t the only ones incredibly excited for Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, as Superman actor Henry Cavill recently said that he can’t wait to see the gritty comic book movie either. It isn’t surprising given the rave reviews that came out of the Venice Film Festival recently, with many giving Joker five-star reviews and praising Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix.

This past weekend, Jim Lee took to his official Instagram page to talk about how he felt about Joker underneath the film’s stunning poster, explaining that Joaquin Phoenix is “mesmerising” as the latest Clown Prince of Crime. Superman actor Henry Cavill commented on the post soon after, saying he “can’t wait to see” the movie.

Don’t expect to see Superman or Batman truly exist in the same world as this Joker though, as it’s a very self contained film, dedicated to studying the character rather than a cinematic universe. It’s currently playing in festivals but won’t premiere in theaters until this October.

Henry Cavill’s future as Superman is currently in doubt, especially after it was reported that the actor’s involvement with the DC Extended Universe was in jeopardy given that DC Films is currently undergoing numerous changes after the underperformance of the first live-action Justice League movie. He was last seen as Superman in Justice League.

Here is the official synopsis for Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker:

Director Todd Phillips’ Joker centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.

Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.

Joker opens in theaters on October 4, 2019. Stay tuned for the latest news on the Joaquin Phoenix movie and Henry Cavill’s future as Superman.
