Unsurprisingly, Superman actor Henry Cavill is a super-fan of DC Comics. In honor of National Comic Book Day, Cavill recorded a short video and picked up several issues of the DC Rebirth line that focus on the core members of the Justice League.
Cavill posted the video (which has him zoom in on a Justice League calendar on the way to the register) on Instagram:
In honour of national comic book Day I went down to Forbidden Planet in London and grabbed me some reading material!! Any recommendations for when I go back? As an aside, I do believe my Clark disguise is 100% on point because only 2 eagle eyed young chaps spotted me (you know who you are) and the gentleman who helped me with my purchases at the counter, very casually said “looking forward to the next one” as I walked away! Very smooth sir, very smooth. So basically, Clark Kent should have a handle bar moustache in the next movie. It seems to make sense to me. #NationalComicBookDay #Superman #JusticeLeague @ForbiddenPlanet
Cavill’s post naturally focused on Superman merchandise in particular, but what’s of interest is that he seemed to pick up a lot of issues of the DC Rebirth line. Aside from Action Comics, one of the major Superman titles, Cavill’s haul consisted of the Rebirth one-shots for Batman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, and The Flash – all of which form the initial iteration of the cinematic version of the Justice League.
Justice League unites on November 17, 2017. The superhero epic features a cast that includes Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne (Batman), Henry Cavill as Kal-El/Clark Kent (Superman), Gal Gadot as Diana Prince (Wonder Woman), Jason Momoa as Orin/Arthur Curry (Aquaman), Ezra Miller as Barry Allen (The Flash), Ray Fisher as Victor Stone (Cyborg), Ciarán Hinds as Steppenwolf, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Robin Wright as General Antiope, J. K. Simmons as Commissioner James ‘Jim’ Gordon, Joe Morton as Dr. Silas Stone, Amber Heard as Mera, Billy Crudup as Dr. Henry Allen, and Kiersey Clemons as Iris West. 5 Things We Want To See From Superman When He Returns In ‘Justice League’
The DC Extended Universe is having a massive year with the overwhelming success of Wonder Woman and the immense hype for the release of Justice League. The upcoming superhero team-up epic is what Warner Bros. has been building towards for the past few years and it is the first time we will the see the League assembled on the big screen. It echoes similarly to when The Avengers first teamed up 5 years ago. Justice League is going to be a huge event with several iconic DC heroes, but the character that most people are waiting to see is the Man of Steel himself, Superman.
At the end of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Superman makes the choice to sacrifice himself. With him currently being gone and set to make his return in Justice League, there are things that fans would like to see from Kal-El. Henry Cavill’s Superman has so far been the most divisive DCEU character. There are a lot of things that need to be embraced and altered when he returns so that he feels like the Superman from the comics that fans have been clamouring for ever since his debut in Man of Steel.
