Many DC fans would love to see a Zack Snyder cut of the Justice League film, but the man who plays Superman does not believe that if that cut ever sees the light of day it will truly make a difference.
Justice League was a critical and financial bust and a lot of people blame this on the director Joss Whedon. Whedon took over for Zack Snyder after a tragic family incident and really didn’t do the film any favors in the end. Whedon’s cheesy dialogue and cliche storytelling really took what would have probably been a decent Snyder flick into a horribly long and dull episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Ever since, DC Extended Universe fans have been demanding to see a Snyder cut of the film.
However, not everyone believes that a Zack Snyder cut of Justice League will actually make a difference. Actor Henry Cavill, who plays the Last Son of Krypton in the DCEU, recently told Yahoo while promoting his upcoming film Mission: Impossible – Fallout that he doesn’t believe that version will really make a difference if it’s ever released.
“I don’t know if [a Snyder cut] actually exists so the only way I can look at it is as a business model, and I don’t know what difference it’s going to make.”
Henry Cavill’s opinion comes from a logical perspective giving how Hollywood is all business. The actor went on to explain his thoughts in more detail and revealed that he does believe it would be entertaining to see.
“I think it might be entertaining, for sure, and go, ‘Oh look, now I’ve scratched that itch,’ but it’s not going to change anything that I can think of, it’s not going to make huge amounts of money all of a sudden for a studio.”
Justice League did not make a ton of money at the box office and was considered somewhat of a loss for the studio. So while it may have some value, the Snyder cut overall its probably not the direction the studio will go in. That being said, Cavill makes a solid point of moving on from the past and looking forward to the future in regards to the DC Extended Universe.
“They’re not going to release it into cinemas and so they’re not going to suddenly make an extra few hundred million, “So it would be interesting to see what the difference is, but I’d rather focus on the future rather than what’s been.”
Henry Cavill and Warner Brothers are very interested in doing a Man of Steel sequel as the game plan has seemed to pivot to focus on solid solitary stories for the DC heroes. A Snyder cut would be interesting to see but moving on from that disaster, learning from its mistakes, and focusing on improvement may be just what the DCEU needs. Whether or not fans ever see Snyder’s version come to life, the cinematic universe he started will move forward and hopefully one day be able to reunite again under much better circumstances.
