11. Wakanda In All its Glory
Klaue describes Wakanda as “El Dorado”, the mythical South American city of gold. However, it’s not gold, and it’s not in South America. The real El Dorado is Wakanda. Instead of gold, the treasure is vibranium. Because vibranium is the rarest metal in the MCU, the country is incredibly wealthy (hence keeping their borders closed). This wealth has afforded the country numerous advances in architecture and scientific technology. They even have their own ships.
The overhead shot of T’Challa’s royal ship flying over the city is as out of this world as the countless shots seen in Guardians of the Galaxy or the Thor movies. For this world, it is alien, but it’s on our planet. The facade of being a third world nation serves to protect Wakanda from the outside world so that their resources can remain in-house. Of course, with Klaue having been there, there is a risk. He is literally a threat to their national security, which worries T’Challa and Okoye (Danai Gurira), his chief security guard of the Dora Milaje.
