One of the most heartbreaking moments in 2016 came when Alan Rickman passed away. The Harry Potter actor brilliantly portrayed Severus Snape from 2001 until the final film in 2011. Despite being apart of such a huge franchise, Rickman had a fantastic career outside of the Wizarding World. Rickman starred in such films as Die Hard, Love Actually, the brilliantly underrated flick, Galaxy Quest and both Alice In Wonderland films. In August 2015, Rickman had a minor stroke, which led to the diagnosis of his pancreatic cancer. Rickman passed on January 14, 2016 at the age of 69.
During his funeral, his Sense And Sensibility co-star, Kate Winslet, revealed the genius way Rickman spent his Harry Potter money. Of course, those films were incredibly popular, so the pay check would undoubtedly reflect that, right?
The actress revealed:
“He was always a great big softy. If there was one word I could use to really describe Al, it would be kind. He was so kind. At Al’s memorial, Juliet Stevenson told the story of how whenever Al would go out to supper and anyone else would try and pay, he would somehow have phoned ahead or slipped his credit card ahead of the meal so no one even got a look at the check. He’d just say, ‘I’ve got two words for you: Harry Potter.’ And he became known for doing that.”
As well as being a legend on screen, it has now been confirmed that Rickman was also a legend off screen. Well, what do you guys think? Rickman was one of the most talented men to never win an Academy Award, despite being one of the most iconic British actors.
The Harry Potter franchise is available on DVD/Blu-Ray now.
