Last year, ABC and Marvel TV made the big announcement that Black Bolt and the Royal Family would be making their debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the form of the television series The Inhumans which got picked up straight to series. We now know finally who is playing one of them as The Hollywood Reporter revealed today that Game of Thrones star Iwan Rheon has been tapped to play Maximus the Mad.

“Maximus is a clever and charming Inhuman that is fiercely devoted to the people of Attilan, especially his brother, the King — though he harbors an intense desire to wear the crown himself. “

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel TV President Jeph Loeb, who will work on the series as an executive producer, said this about the casting of Rheon as Maximus.

“Iwan’s ability to be charming, roguish and still completely unexpectedly dangerous were all the different sides we needed to bring the character to life. We’re thrilled to have him on board”.

Scott Buck, who is the show-runner of both Iron Fist and The Inhumans, added this about Rheon’s casting.

“Maximus is a complex character. Likable, charming, tragic and villainous all in the same moment, and I’m very excited to have someone of Iwan’s considerable talent.”

The first two episodes will be directed by Roel Reine (Admiral, The Delivery) and shown in IMAX theaters during the first two weeks of September. The Inhumans marks as one of several upcoming shows from Marvel TV. Hulu recently revealed their cast of heroes and villains for The Runaways, while Freeform recently cast the leads and supporting characters for Cloak & Dagger which is set to premiere in 2018.

“The Inhumans, a race of superhumans with diverse and singularly unique powers, were first introduced in Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965. Since that time, they have grown in prominence and become some of the most popular and iconic characters in the Marvel Universe. “Marvel’s The Inhumans” will explore the never-before-told epic adventure of Black Bolt and the royal family.”

Marvel’s The Inhumans premieres on Tuesday, September 26 on ABC – no official timeslot has been given yet.
