New fan art features Jake Gyllenhaal replacing Ben Affleck as Batman in the DC Extended Universe.

Jake Gyllenhaal has been one of many names commonly thrown around by fans as a good choice to play Batman in Matt Reeves’ upcoming movie if Ben Affleck doesn’t return. The actor has yet to be cast in the role but he will be playing another iconic comic book character this July when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters. Jake Gyllenhaal is playing the film’s villain Mysterio but a new piece of DC fan art features the actor in a much more heroic role.

A new piece of awesome fan art has appeared on Instagram to give fans a glimpse at what Jake Gyllenhaal could look like as the next live-action Batman. The last Batman solo movie to be released on the big screen was 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises, which was the highest grossing DC movie up until recently when Aquaman outgrossed the film’s worldwide box office total. Since then Ben Affleck has portrayed the Caped Crusader in films such as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and Justice League. There’s still no official word on whether or not Ben Affleck will return to the big screen in the iconic role but in the meantime, check out the awesome art featuring Jake Gyllenhaal in the post below.

DCEU fans won’t have to wait too long to see Gotham City on the big screen again. This October, Warner Bros. is releasing an origin story for the Joker, simply titled Joker, with Joaquin Phoenix starring as the titular Rogues Gallery villain. Next year, Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) will bring iconic Batman characters such as Batgirl, Huntress, and Black Mask to the DCEU as well. As the title suggests, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, who made her debut in 2016’s Suicide Squad, will also be one of the main characters in the film.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Matt Reeves’ Batman film as soon as more information becomes available. Do you think Jake Gyllenhaal would be a good replacement for Ben Affleck in the DCEU?
