James Gunn On The Marvel Cinematic Universe Continuing After Phase 3

Avengers Infinity War Marvel Cinematic UniverseMarvel Studios President Kevin Feige has described Phase 3 as being the conclusion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it, but some fans have mistaken Feige’s words to mean that the MCU will be rebooted after the fourth Avengers movie. Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy director James Gunn clarifies that the fourth Avengers movie isn’t the beginning of the end, but the end of the beginning.

Ever Marvel’s #1 go-to guy for social media about the movies, Gunn explained to a confused fan that the movie is the end to a 22-movie story arc, not the end to the setting as a whole:

Gunn also added that even though the Guardians of the Galaxy will be in the next two Avengers movies, their story arc isn’t going to end there due to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 being a thing:

What’s interesting about that last bit is that it suggests a fourth Guardians movie – albeit one with a different team – is possible. But what little we know about “Phase 4” (or whatever it may be called) suggests that the third Guardians outing is going to be the launching-point for a number of cosmic Marvel movies while the untitled Spider-Man sequel is going to set the stage for many future Earth-based stories – the former is said to potentially launch a decade of movies, and the latter is said to be as influential to the “Phase 4” slate as Captain America: Civil War was for Phase 3. In any case, the highest-grossing movie franchise of all time isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Avengers: Infinity War will be released on May 4, 2018, and has a cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautisa, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Rudd, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Hiroyuki Sanada, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Tessa Thompson, Benicio Del Toro, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, and Josh Brolin.

5 Reasons We’re Excited For ‘Thor: Ragnarok’

Previous1 of 6

Thor: RagnarokGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is out on home media and Spider-Man: Homecoming has been playing in theaters for a while now, so it’s time to look forward to the next Marvel movies, the first being Thor: Ragnarok.

The trailer for the film is incredible. The vibe, the action, the set-design, the soundtrack, every element of the trailer screams, “This is a different kind of Thor movie.”

And that’s exactly what we need. Thor: The Dark World was the most easily forgettable Marvel sequel, only distinguishable from the original for its use of fan-favorite villain Loki. Thor: Ragnarok looks poised to switch up the formula, seeming more like a fun intergalactic romp than a brooding space epic.

Judging from the trailer and other positive buzz, there’s plenty of cause to be excited for Thor: Ragnarok. Here are the 5 reasons why. Click next to get started!
