James Gunn Gives His Opinion On Making Sequels

James GunnJames Gunn is one of the most active directors on Twitter and it is there that he sometimes shares little nuggets of information with fans. Yesterday James Gunn tweeted about how much he is looking forward to Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and it led to an exchange where he discussed his philosophies on what a sequel should be in this age of franchises.

Here is Gunn’s original tweet, in response to comic book legend Mark Millar:

A fan then asked Gunn if he believes the “church scene” from the first Kingsman film will be topped in the sequel. The Guardians director then explained that he views a sequel as an evolutionary step in telling a continued story. Check out the full tweet below:

As an audience, we can clearly see Gunn’s line of thinking in this summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2. This sequel took the characters we knew and loved from the first film and put them all into different situations that made them grow and evolve, much as you would expect people to do. Perhaps it is this line of thinking that has resonated with audiences who found a deeper meaning to Guardians 2, and not just a bigger, badder, retread of the first film.

We will see soon enough if Kingsman: The Golden Circle is different than its predecessor or just another retread sequel. In the meantime, here is the synopsis:

Kingsman: The Secret Service introduced the world to Kingsman – an independent, international intelligence agency operating at the highest level of discretion, whose ultimate goal is to keep the world safe. In Kingsman: The Golden Circle, our heroes face a new challenge. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy…

Directed by Matthew Vaughn, The film stars Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal, Vinnie Jones, Sir Elton John and Halle Berry.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle will be released in theaters on September 22, 2017.

5 Millarworld Projects Netflix Should Develop First

Previous1 of 6

With news breaking that Neflix has purchased Millarworld, comic book fans have a lot of new digital content to look forward to. Mark Millar, the man whose work on The Ultimates inspired the on-screen depiction of the Avengers, has a huge cabal of books that explore distinct aspects of comic book archetypes. Not only will Netflix create content based off of the Millarworld catalog, but they will continue to publish new comic series as well.

Unfortunately, Kick-Ass and Kingsman, the two most successful franchises in Millarworld, are not part of the deal. While fans of the movies may be unhappy, I think every Millarworld project on this list has huge potential to capture the hearts of fans around the world. Millar’s unique mix of action, satire and heart distinguish his stories from everything else on the shelves, and I’m beyond excited to see what Neflix can whip up. Some of his books can work as movies, but some will work better as mature television programs, so I’m happy that Millarworld teamed up with Netflix instead of a traditional media company like Lionsgate or Sony.

After seeing Guardians 2, it seems his idea of making a sequel is just horrifically parodying the first one
