In a recent interview with SuperheroHype, actress Anya Taylor-Joy, who has previously expressed interest to play Magik in the film, speculated that James McAvoy, who portrays the young version of Charles Xavier a.k.a. Professor X, is indeed reprising the role for this film.

“I mean, I think James is already a part of it, isn’t he?”

Should McAvoy indeed be back for the role, it would mark as the actor’s fourth time portraying the iconic character. Taylor-Jay also expressed interest once again to be part of the film, while also talking about having seen the Demon Bear concept art.

“I have [seen the Demon Bear animatic], it’s pretty cool,. I’m a big fan so I’d love to be a part of it. I can’t say very much, but I would love to be a part of it. I think this year’s gonna be very exciting.”

Back in August 2016, it was reported that the Fault In Our Stars screenwriting duo, Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, has joined the creative team to write the screenplay, reuniting with the film’s director Josh Boone. New Mutants is just one among several X-Men franchises, as Deadpool is getting a sequel with David Leitch (John Wick) set to direct.
