James Wan Says ‘The Trench’ Will Be A Horror Movie Set In Jason Momoa’s ‘Aquaman’ World

Aquaman James Wan The Trench

According to James Wan, the upcoming film based around The Trench will be a monster movie set in Jason Momoa’s Aquaman world.

During a recent interview with ComicBook.com, James Wan talked a bit about the upcoming Aquaman spinoff. He, unfortunately, couldn’t go into too many details as the script and story were still being worked out.  He did, however, reinforce the idea that The Trench film will play more like a horror movie than a traditional superhero film:

We, you know, we’re still deep in sort of crafting the script, crafting the story right now so I don’t want to get into that too much, but definitely it’s one that I really want to lean into the horror of it, so it’s going to play more as a monster horror movie then it will as a superhero film, but it’s still definitely part of the Aquaman world.

From the look of things, the DC Extended Universe will be taking a dive into the horror genre before to long!

The Trench, of course, was the biggest scene stealers from Jason Momoa’s Aquaman. In the film, they functioned as an obstacle that Aquaman and Merna had to get past in order to get the trident that would allow Jason Momoa’s character command over the seas. The Trench only appeared in one major scene but it was none the less a terrifying appearance that was arguably the best scene in the entire film.

What do you all make of this news? Are you happy that James Wan and company are making The Trench into a horror film? Would such a film belong in the DC Universe? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
