James Wan Teases ‘Super Cool’ Villains For ‘Aquaman’

We briefly got to see Jason Momoa’s Aquaman in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but his own standalone movie is still a couple of years away. The project is obviously in early stages of development and likely won’t go into production until next year, but that hasn’t stopped fans from wondering who the titular character will be going up against and which supporting characters will be showing up in the movie.

While doing the press rounds for The Conjuring 2, director James Wan spoke with CinemaBlend about his love of the Aquaman world in the comic books and suggested that we’ll see more than one villain in the movie. Here’s what he told the site:

“I gotta say, one thing I love about the Aquaman world is all the really different, really interesting characters. They are interesting characters, including the villains – I’m not going to tell you which villains I’m going to play with! [laughs] But they’re super cool. They’re very larger than life, but they’re unique.”

The director then went on to talk about why he thinks it took so long to bring the character to the big screen and how excited he is to be working on this project:

“That’s what I’ll speak to – the uniqueness of the Aquaman world. There are so many superhero movies now; I don’t want to make a superhero movie now for the sake of doing it, but there’s something unique to the world of Aquaman. There’s a reason why they’ve never made a movie about this until now, because technology has never allowed us to tackle something this complicated. And so because of that it feels like something different, and that uniqueness is what I’m excited about.”

What do you guys think? Are you looking forward to seeing what Wan has in store for us with Aquaman? Sound-off your thoughts in the comment section below.

It’s definitely either Ocean Master or Black Manta… They could play it like the first Thor with Ocean Master…

There are very many interesting Aquaman villains and characters, there’s really no other way to put it.
many of them are anti heroes who could be friends or foes, their allegiance can change all in the same story.
Black Manta would be a great one to start with but you really can’t go wrong with the canon. Luckily for him he can mold the characters which ever way he see fit and wont get annoying creativity stifling fanboys saying “not muh Black Manta or Ocean Master or Aguaman or Mera”

I’d love to see King Shark show up in Aquaman as well. Also, at some point they should introduce Aqualad (the Black one) too. He just came back in Rebirth, and he’s the son of Black Manta, so that would be all kinds of awesome.

Well hopefully under Wan’s helm, Waterman should be entertaining and epic, as long as dceu stays out of his way.
