According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, San Andreas director Brad Peyton will direct Malignant Man with James Wan producing. Malignant Man is being made at FOX, based on the Boom! Studios comic of the same name which was co-created by Wan.
Malignant Man follows Alex Gates, a patent dying of terminal illness who discovers his tumor is actually an alien parasite. With incredible powers and renewed purpose, Gates attempts to fight a secret army lurking in the shadows of society while also discovering his own secrets. Boom!’s Ross Richie and Stephen Christy are producing alongside Wan, as well as the director.
Zak Olkewicz has written a draft of the screenplay for the adaptation. Boom! currently has its comic The Empty Man in pre-production, and Adam McKay has come on to direct an adaptation of Irredeemable.
Wan co-wrote and directed Conjuring 2, which opened first at this weekend’s box office with almost $40.4 million. He will also be directing the upcoming Aquaman for DC. San Andreas grossed $473 million worldwide, and Peyton recently wrapped on Frontier for Netflix.
